Main Purpose of the Position
To perform autonomous and complex/advanced installation and maintenance of electrical and energy systems in all MSF facilities (offices, health structures, warehouses, etc.) according to MSF standards and procedures. This role ensures proper functioning and maintenance of all MSF equipment and installations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform autonomous and advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect working condition.
- Conduct routine maintenance as per vehicle logbook instructions, including mini A, medium B, full C services, and any other special services.
- Test all vehicles after service completion and before returning them to drivers.
- Record and review driver feedback; repair mechanical issues and update the service/repair logbook accordingly.
- Diagnose breakdowns, inform the line manager, and execute complex repairs upon approval.
- Monitor the validity of all required documents such as annual inspections and insurance.
- Assist in training and briefing drivers on vehicle maintenance.
- Manage the stock of consumables and tools: update inventory records, conduct physical stock counts, and place timely orders to avoid shortages.
- Ensure the correct use, maintenance, and replacement of all mechanical tools and equipment (including extinguishers).
- Maintain a clean and organized working area.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and prepare necessary reports before and after repairs.
Context-Specific Responsibilities
- Ensure vehicles are season-ready (e.g., install mud tires during the rainy season).
- Repair vehicle tires as needed.
- Conduct weekly vehicle checks with drivers present.
- Immediately report any damages, losses, theft, or break-in attempts to the line manager.
- Collaborate with the Project Logistics Manager to place timely mechanic-related orders.
- Ensure workshop assets are correctly reported in Track My Stuff in collaboration with the Log Manager.
- Adhere to the SOP for managing spare parts from stock to workshop.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in mechanics or related field (essential).
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of demonstrable experience in mechanical work.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Valid driver’s license (essential).
- Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Inventory and stock management skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Swahili (knowledge of Kirundi and/or French is a plus).
