A Legal Officer is responsible for overseeing the legal aspects of an organization’s operations to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, mitigate legal risks, and safeguard the organization’s interests. This role involves providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, handling litigation matters, and liaising with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies. The Legal Officer supports various departments by interpreting laws, regulations, and contractual obligations to facilitate informed decision-making.

Enterprise Finance Limited (EFL) is looking for a passionate and qualified Legal Officer to join our team!

Duties and Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide accurate and timely counsel to management on legal matters and regulatory issues.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for internal departments.

Contract Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with legal standards and organizational policies.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes affecting the organization.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable laws, licenses, and permits.

Litigation Support:

  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on litigation and dispute resolution.
  • Prepare legal documentation for court proceedings and maintain records.

Policy Development:

  • Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to reduce legal risks.
  • Train staff on legal compliance and internal regulations.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Advise on legal risks in proposed transactions and business decisions.

Corporate Governance:

  • Support the board and senior management on corporate governance issues.
  • Prepare resolutions, board minutes, and maintain corporate records.

Stakeholder Liaison:

  • Represent the organization in legal proceedings, meetings, and negotiations.
  • Liaise with government agencies, regulators, and external counsel as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)
Registered Advocate of the High Court
2+ years of experience in the financial sector (an added advantage)
